A Child of our Time, A War Child Event

When a charity project such as War Child comes along, you won’t be able say no: a benefit concert for War Child Holland, playing Michael Tippett’s “A Child of our Time.”

War Child is a non-governmental organization. It founded in the UK in 1993. War Child Holland is the largest War Child office, which has specialized in helping the psychosocial needs of children who have suffered from war and conflict situations.

It was such a great honor to be part of this great project. From the very beginning, There was a click between the teams of A Child of Our Time, Monkey Republic and Studio Scutch. A very talented movie studio who made the great intro movie of this event.

A Child of Our Time

Michael Tippett wrote A Child of Our Time at the beginning of the Second World War. It is an expression of “man’s inhumanity to man”. The composition is a timeless message about war, freedom, oppression and of our own individual responsibilities for all these. The concert is situated in a remarkable building, Radio Kootwijk. The building with the 35-meter- high concert hall is surrounded by ethereal meadows. The perfectly symmetrical and sphinx-like building had a mystical aura which fitted War Child’s Concert perfectly.

Story Teller

Monkey Republic’s job wasn’t as grand as composing a concert, but it was still integral to the cause. The website had to tell the mission of this event: helping our children, the most vulnerable victims of war. We chose the intro video as the main stream. Our one-page website tells the stories while you’re scrolling, as dynamic elements react to your mouse movements. The mouse gestures will trigger the sequence parallax when you scroll down. A dark red and white color scheme together with retro fonts fit with and echo War Child’s logo. All of these aspects come together to express the message of the cause so that it might spread to a wider audience.
